Sachchidanand SAHAI Historian Professor Sachchidanand SAHAI, former Pro-Vice Chancellor Magadh University, is currently Fellow at Indian Institute of Advanced Study SIMLA (India). He is the author of ³Les institutions politiques et l¹organisation administrative du Cambodge ancien², (EFEO, Paris 1970) under the supervision of George C¦dès, the master of Khmer epigraphy and history. He wrote also a number of books on Laos and Thailand, exploring the outer zone of Khmer civilization. In course of his visit to Siem Reap, Professor Sachchidanand SAHAI will present the current status of studies on the famous Sdok Kok Thom inscription, the Khmer monuments relating to Devaraja and analyse the implications for Khmer civilization. Cette stèle est particulièrement riche d¹informations détaillées sur le fonctionnement et l¹organisation d¹une grande fondation religieuse durant le règne de Jayavarman VII. Claude Jacques is a French epigraphist and historian and a specialist of ancient Khmer culture. After completing his Ph.D. in Lyon and Paris, he has been a fellow at the French Institute of Indology in Pondichéry (India 1959-61), then researcher at EFEO in Cambodia and professor of epigraphy and art history at Phnom Penh University from 1961 to 1970. In 1973 he was elected to a Chair of epigraphy at the Ecole pratique des Hautes Etudes (EPHE, France), IVth section. Since 1993, he works as special adviser to the General Director of UNESCO for Angkor and Cambodia. He is also the author of numerous articles and of renowned books: Angkor (Bordas 1990), Angkor city and sanctuaries (Olizane 1997), Angkor khmer city (River books 1999). On the occasion of his visit to Siem Reap, Professor Claude JACQUES will present the wealth and complexity of the inscriptions of ancient Cambodia, using as an example the famous stele of the Prah Khan temple in Angkor. This long inscription is exceptionally rich in details, and is extremely informative for a better understanding of the workings of a great religious foundation under King Jayavarman VII. Claire Dard-Ternisien Étudiante de fin cycle à l¹Institut National du Patrimoine (section restauration). Student at the Heritage National Institute (Conservation department) Claire Dard-Ternisien est titulaire d¹un DEUG de Sciences (Biologie Chimie), d¹une maîtrise d¹Histoire de l¹Art et a suivi les cours des ateliers des Beaux-Arts. Elle termine cette année son cursus de Conservateur - Restaurateur du Patrimoine à l¹Institut National du Patrimoine (section restauration) et s¹est spécialisée dans la restauration des sculptures. À l¹occasion de l¹achèvement du stage de fin de cycle qu¹elle a effectué au Musée National de Phnom Penh et à Angkor Vat avec le GACP (German Apsara Conservation Project), Claire Dard-Ternisien exposera divers aspects de la restauration des bois polychromes (approche technique et historique préalable, procédés de mise en ¦uvre et traitementsŠ) à travers la présentation de plusieurs exemples d¹¦uvres qu¹elle a traitées dans le cadre de l¹Institut National du Patrimoine. Elle abordera aussi certaines spécificités des techniques de polychromies en Asie et leurs problèmes inhérents. She is completing the Heritage National Institute curriculum at the conservation department, specialised in sculptures restoration. On the term of the final year field training she realised at the National Museum of Phnom Penh and at Angkor Vat with the GACP (German Apsara Conservation Project), Claire Dard-Ternisien will present various aspects of the conservation and restoration of polychromatic wooden sculptures (technical and historical preliminary studies, technical processŠ) with several examples she worked on at the Heritage National Institute.
