THE 2nd ANNUAL CINEMA CAMBODIA FILM FESTIVAL

The 2nd Annual Cinema Cambodia Film Festival will happen this Saturday. Pleased to note that we will have not one but two films by Cambodian Living Arts' Chhuon Sarin in in the Festival this weekend, at their 'Short Film' feature beginning Friday afternoon 5:30 pm. Please come out and have a look! Also included should be a piece by Patrick Fowles, Kirrily Schell and computer animation of Angkorean times from Monash University, Australia. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
THE 2nd ANNUAL CINEMA CAMBODIA FILM FESTIVAL A Day Long Celebration of Filmmaking and Video Arts Presented by The Faculty of Communications & Media Arts Pannasastra University of Cambodia When: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2005 Where: PUC SOUTH CAMPUS ROOFTOP AMPHITHEATER No. 184 Maha Vithei Preah Norodom (South of Independence Monument) This year’s theme: “DOCUMENTARY VISIONS” Schedule of Events SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 12 9 a.m.—11 a.m. Seminar and Workshop on Low Budget Filmmaking and Digital Video Technologies (Free Admission) A workshop and demonstration on the latest film/digital video technologies and their applications, including production equipment and editing software. Presented in cooperation with the staff of Babel Studios of Phnom Penh. 2 p.m.—4 p.m. Foreign Documentary Showcase (Free Admission) “Bookwars” Directed by Jason Rosette Shot on a minuscule budget, “Bookwars” takes an amusing look at the lives of a group of used book sellers, who ply their trade on the streets of New York City. Discussion with filmmaker Jason Rosette follows the screening. 5:30 p.m.—8:30 p.m. Short Film Showcase Featuring short documentary works by new Cambodian filmmakers and their friends. (Admission 2000 riel for students and their families; $2 for non students) Proceeds benefit the PUC Center for Community Service Learning (CSL), and the Pannasastra Student Senate (PASS). FILMS MEMM DIRECTOR: Chuon Sarin An exploration of the origins of the Memm, an ancient Khmer musical instrument depicted on the walls of the Bayon Temple. CAMBODIA’S DUMP CHILDREN DIRECTOR: Katy Bullen The story of the children living at Phnom Penh’s Municipal Waste Dump and one Cambodian man’s inspiring effort to help them. TOUM NOUNH NEANG KESANY (THE MOANING OF MADAM KESANY) DIRECTOR: Sann Thy A music video based on a traditional Khmer singing style called “Smote”. This type of singing is often sung at Cambodian religious festivals, including funerals. BEAUTY OF CAMBODIAN ARTS DIRECTOR: Chuon Sarin An examination of the renaissance in Cambodian art forms and efforts at preservation. WOMEN AND EDUCATION IN CAMBODIAN SOCIETY DIRECTOR: Chhim Sundaly A look at the difficulties faced by young Cambodian women in trying to obtain an education. THE KHMER ROUGE RICE FIELDS: THE STORY OF RAPE SURVIVOR TANG KIM DIRECTOR: Rahana Phat Filmmaker Rachana Phat explores the story of Tang Kim and her decades long struggle to come to terms with what happened to her during the Khmer Rouge regime. LIKE YOU DIRECTORS: Wendy Erd and the Life of Hope Improvisational Drama Group A play about the difficulties and discrimination often faced by disabled people in Cambodia, and their efforts to become productive members of society. FRAGILE HOPES FROM THE KILLING FIELDS DIRECTOR: TIARA DELGADO Narrated by Academy Award winning actress Susan Sarandon, “Fragile Hopes” examines the relationship between Killing Fields survivors and their children. It features three families—three in Cambodia, and one living in the U.S. Features songs by Cambodian American rap artist Prach Ly.
