OK, so not everyone can vote in the USA Presidential election.

But you CAN vote for Prey Lang and Phymean Noun.
There’s a filmmaking contest on by the World Bank. And wouldn’t it be great to see more of their money go towards making socially relevant films than the usual silly development hijinks they get up to?

Jocelyn and Ben Pederick are hoping to get some dosh to turn their short ‘Prey Lang’ film into a longer version.
Go, watch, and if you like please vote:

Entry 31: Prey Lang One Forest One Future
http://go.worldbank.org/3B7UE9PJ70
Director(s): Ben Pederick, Jocelyn Pederick
Film Categories: Indigenous Peoples
Country: Cambodia
Synopsis:
“The whole of Southeast Asia was once covered in low-lying evergreen forest. Now the last large forest of this kind is in Cambodia and it’s unprotected. The indigenous Kuy people have been its custodians for countless generations. This forest is called Prey Lang.”

Meanwhile, Phymean Noun of People Improvement Organisation is up for a CNN Heroes award for her group’s work at Stung Meanchey Dump.

cambodia

For those of you who may be new to this blog, here is a little hint: it’s about Cambodia. Sometimes I stretch the definition a bit but that’s what you’re going to get.

I get emails: people request I ‘save hungry children’ or ‘share important information’. These are from businesses, associations, even nonprofits too!

What they want is free advertising and blogosphere credibility.

However, if it ain’t about Cambodia, it ain’t gonna happen.

Courtesy the Anti-Advertising Agency, I’m using a template customized from their site for replies. (Cheers to AEM for tipoff.)

==========================

Hello there,

I am reaching out to you as a fellow blogger in light of the Vice Presidential debate. I was surprised and impressed by both candidates. In my opinion, both Sarah Palin and Joe Biden performed very well. My business partner, Mark Harrison, and I are super-interested in understanding how the popular view of Sara Palin has developed as a result — and is developing. I’m posing the poll question, “If John McCain died or became incapacitated, would Sara Palin be competent to be President?” over at AHPoll:

Poll: [AD LINK DELETED]

The poll can be embedded into your own blog, if that’s something you might consider, or you can just mention it to your readers — at the very least, I would love you to vote and maybe make a comment. Either way, I put together an easy-to-use social media news release for you:

SMNR: [AD LINK DELETED]

Thanks!

Chris

Dear CHRIS ABRAHAM,

So great to hear from you!

Thank you for your kind offer to host your link on my site. I will regret turning this fantastic opportunity down, as my blog is focused on Cambodia, not politics. If you were reading my blog as opposed to operating off a mailing list, you’d be able to ‘reach out’ even better for your social media! I highly recommend it.

Please don’t feel rejected, CHRIS ABRAHAM. There are still several online venues available for you to legally and ethically pursue the wider audience you feel your product, event, or service deserves—without the trouble of chasing down individual bloggers or site owners! Two of the more popular are the Yellow Pages and Craigslist.

Maybe, though, this email comes at a bad time for you. Perhaps the legal and ethical problems plaguing social media advertising today have begun to gnaw. Likely, you always wanted to do something more fulfilling and creative with your life—and I can help!

My friends at the Anti-Advertising Agency Foundation For Freedom will help CHRIS ABRAHAM network with creatives in noncommercial fields and assist you in putting your talents to good use to help solve real-world problems!

Or perhaps the problem runs deeper than that, and the legal and ethical issues the social media advertising industry raises simply do not concern you. I completely understand. Maybe you’d be more comfortable making a donation, or forwarding the application link along to your colleagues in the social media advertising industry. Now could be the time for you to weed out a bit of the competition!

Well, thanks again—It’s been great emailing with you!

Sincerely,

John Weeks
