Bits and Bobs of Blogs

Fugitive DenimThat ‘Fugitive Denim’ is hard to track, but it will be making an appearance at Monument Books:

BOOK LAUNCH
7 – 8pm Wednesday, June 4, 2008
Monument Books/Java TeaRoom

Resident author Rachel Louise Snyder will read an excerpt from her first book and be available for signing.
“The multi-billion dollar textile industry is perhaps the world’s best barometer of globalization’s effects – both nefarious and beneficial. After all, everyone has to get dressed in the morning, and that means they need clothes – clothes that are usually made in far-off countries, under the auspices of a rapidly changing cluster of trade agreements and quota treaties.
The remarkably complex chain of events, from the cotton field to the factory floor to the catwalk, is the focus of writer Rachel Louise Snyder’s captivating new book…”

And right next to the main stage they have kindly reserved a ‘cloggers corner’.

05

Vuthasurf and Virak are already there. KhmerOS.info will be there. I’m off to go take a picture or two. Oh, and there’s another BarCamp meetup, apparently at the venue!

09

Above: blog training.

4:59 PM: Loud music is booming from the main stage. It’s so loud, in fact, that Lux Mean is using a microphone to help chair one of the ‘largest clogger meetings ever!’ I’ve been shooting scads of pictures and below is a list of people who have written their name up in the ‘Clogger Corner’: Naturally, I have forgotten my camera cable so pictures will follow a day after this post is written.

[That's a lot! If I spelled it wrong or you've got something to add, leave a comment.]

5:15: I count about 30 people in attendance. Now Tharum is giving us an update on plans for BarCamp PhnomPenh.

07

5:30: The sound of disco music is really loud! Using a video projector, and continuing with the megaphone, the group looks at the comments on the Global Voices Cambodia page regarding on Sopheap’s recent post about sex in advertising.

The irony of discussing this – with a fashion show going on in the background – is not lost on the ‘Cloggers Corner’, who cheers wildly as each participant in the polite discussion makes their point.

I do my best to follow the discussion through the noise and chaotic environment.

02

5:50: Sithen presents info about his training program. http://sithendmi.wordpress.com

6:00: The main screen diplays blog posts on ‘Twittervision’ Talk turns to really important stuff: food. Oh, and when Lux will get married. Aha, it’s the ‘sexy advertising’ discussion continued, a bit more informally.

6:35 Lux, Chantra and Virak introduce the team to Twitter (yep, you can use it in Cambodia! They recommend linking up using Fring. ) http://twitter.com/viirak

6:45 Sopheap talks about upcoming events with Youth Network for Change.

6:50 Photo finish as a group picture is taken with the ‘Clogger Corner’ banner.
