I had it all planned out: skive off work at 4:30, and catch the dubbed Chinese Thai flick pictured here. Alas, over the weekend they’d changed the picture at Cinema Lux. Foiled. I’ll have to wait for the video.
I’d put off seeing the film, my anglophone friends were disinterested, and most of my Khmer friends don’t seem to like ghost stories – though someone is buying the tickets.

Cambodia has one of the fastest growing cinema industries in Asia, and it’s mostly digital. Some theatres specialize in Korean or Chinese dubbed films. Most homegrown films veer towards horror.
These ‘Wild West’ style film posters are great, but I regret that most theatres are now using photo posters instead of painted signs, a change from just a few years ago.
Long Nih Long (‘Chase the Chaser’ or ‘Hound the Hound’ in my amateur translation) looked like it was worth 4500 riel ($1.12) – I’ll advise when I do clamp my eyes on the story. For more film fun, Khmerbird has been known to do the occasional review.

Considering that many of the evicted were artists, it calls to mind the opera La Boheme and the more recent Rent. Maybe the residents don’t need news stories to raise awareness; perhaps a rock opera would be less controversial?

In their short and memorable existence much was done on the part of BFGTF to assert that indeed there was a Phnom Penh ‘scene’.
