Karakoke Fun

Karaoke Fun:
This performer, who has recently passed away, has been taking the airwaves by storm since Khmer New Year. The hit, ‘Put on shirt don’t see take off’ is a clever play on words, ‘doh’ meaning take off or breasts. The singer laments that a woman always seems to wear the same shirt.
The Video CD itself is in Khmer, but the subtitles are in Thai. I believe he is Khmer Surin – part of the sizeable Khmer minority living in Thailand. Conspiracy theorists: “The Thais told him to sing in Thai, but he refused – so they killed him!”
In other news: Sovanna Phum is playing at London’s LIFT festival.

And just after that is Andy Brouwer’s ‘Magic of Cambodia’ day.
