The Khmer Deaf Theatre Project aims to encourage, develop and promote creativity in the art practice of performing arts to the Deaf students of Deaf Development Programme (DDP).
The show is presented in two parts, a story ‘From Nothing to Beginning’ and secondly a cabaret style theatre performance.
The 1st Group presenting a show called ‘From Nothing to Beginning’. It is about Deaf people who were being oppressed and isolated from the general community pre-1997. 1997 sees the establishment of the Deaf school and the development of Khmer Sign Language. Deaf people finally met each other and developed a language. The show is to be performed using gestures, sign language (voice interpreter provided for hearing audience) and visual movement unique to Deaf Theatre.
The 2nd group performance is an individual visual cabaret style depicting life in modern Phnom Penh such as motortaxi, Khmer visiting a western restaurant and kickboxing.
Special guest performer, Rob Roy, an Australian presenting his one-man show of his unique brand of skits and signed song. See website: www.robroyshow.com
